Hello Parents and Students,

 

Tomorrow is our big ‘Band Rally’ meeting!  Hopefully you’ve known about this meeting for some time now, but we’ve been picking up more recruits each week, so even if you are just finding out it is highly encouraged for all incoming students to attend!

 

Middle school students, DON’T miss your current school’s spring concert for this meeting!  We are aware some students are performing Thursday.  Please, just reply and let us know we will miss you and we’ll make sure to follow up!  Best of luck to everyone who has performances this week and next!

Band ‘Freshman Night’ Meeting

In the ACHS auditorium

Thursday, 5/17 at 7:00 PM

(Auditorium entrance is on the west side of the school)

 

Topics and activities will include

• How band makes the high school experience better for both student and parent!
• How band integrates with our magnet programs to help students meet graduation requirements!
• Students engage in team building and make friends!
• Meeting future friends and colleagues!

Popular reasons students/parents consider music activities

• Music activities leave a positive impression with colleges
• Students earn required community service and arts credits toward diplomas
• Character/leadership development prepares students for a future of excellence
• Social/behavioral growth and maturity
• Parents are included in their children’s activities
• Students gain friends also in IB, AP, AICE, etc., before school even starts.  It’s a great support structure!
• Band embodies an active and dedicated culture.
• Our program includes Marching/Concert Band, Jazz Band, Color/Winter Guard, Percussion Ensemble, as well as beginners.  There is something for everyone!

Important Dates (Mini-Camp Times Have Changed!)

• Mini-Band CampTues-Thurs,June 5th,6th, & 7th 10am-5pm in the Band Room
  • PLEASE NOTE the time change!  We moved the camp days to be 2-hours later to accommodate rides better and make our Tuesday (6/5) meeting more accessible for parents.
  • All Current and Incoming students for next year attend.  This means winds, percussion & guard members!
  • Following the camp on Tuesday there will be a 5:00-5:30pmmeeting for families. We will be kicking off our first major fundraiser and signing forms for the summer.  It is important both parents and students plan to attend this meeting!
  • Students are welcome to come early/stay late if needed to accommodate rides.  Parents, if you need to drop-off/pick-up outside of camp times, please let me know!
  • Summer school students (or anyone with conflicts), please let me know if you can’t come to the whole mini-camp!  This camp is where we are really counting our personnel for next year so its important for us to know about absences.  Summer school students should come to the last 2-3 hours of the camp to avoid missing the whole event!

  • 7/23 – 9am-5pm – Leadership only and Color Guard
  • 7/24-7/26 – 8am-5pm – All Members
  • 7/30-8/3  8am-5pm – All Members (Friends & Family celebration at 6pm!)

End of Year Auditions/Tryouts

Guard and Percussion tryouts are done.  Any students who missed can still join!  Just reply and let us know you are still interested!  Thanks to all our students who participated!

 

Wind players, you can choose to audition by appointment between May 21st &June 1st!  Wind auditions are not required or necessary unless you are interested in Wind Ensemble or a chair placement!  The wind instrument audition packet is attached in case any of you have not received it yet.  The info sheet inside explains requirements for each ensemble.

 

Don’t know how to play all of the scales or materials in the audition packet? DON’T WORRY!  Prepare what you can and we’ll just listen to that!  Our students come to ACHS with many different experiences.  We are used to working with these differences!

All-State Auditions 2018

Any students wishing to audition for the FBA All-State Concert, Symphonic, or Jazz Bands need to start practicing now!  You should also consider lessons over the summer too.  Here is a link to the audition requirements.  You will need to purchase the indicated method book to get your prescribed études.
