8/16/18 – First Football Game, Fundraisers Due!

Hello Everyone,

As we continue our wonderful start to this school year, there are many new procedures we all must follow.  Please make it your goal to read any info when it is sent out, as it always contains new and important information!  We are especially looking forward to our first football game! See you there!

Football Game Thursday – Procedures & Reminders!

Dress Code – Solid white shirt, black gym shorts, and dark-colored shoes.

  • We are still waiting on shoe orders.  Students have been asked to bring their darkest sneakers to wear.  PLEASE do not buy new shoes just for this game.  We have marching shoes we can loan to students who need them.
  • We are waiting on show-shirts too.  When the uniform shirts are in the attire will change to that.  For now we are wearing white shirts.
  • NO make-up or jewelry. Guard has their own rules and should consult their guard captains. Long hair must be up to fit under the marching hat.

Plan Your Dinner – Most students either go home to eat and come back, or stay in the band room afterschool and bring food.  I encourage students to stay, but if they must leave the rules are as follows:

  • Students must leave campus promptly afterschool.  If they are under my supervision they will not be allowed to leave unless picked up by a guardian.
  • If you allow your child to drive or ride with other students to go get food, please make your expectations clear to them.  If a student is not in the band room, I am not in charge!
  • We do not want to see students leaving and coming back to campus as they please.  This is a liability for the school.  Please make sure students understand if you want them to stay or leave after school.
  • The call time is strict! Students must come early to be on the field on time.

Call time is 4:00pm – We are having a short rehearsal on the practice field that STARTS at 4:10.  Students need to arrive early enough to be on the field ready for this practice on time.  Further in the season as things change call times should become later.

End time – Home Games typically end 9:00-9:30PM.  Usually an SMS text will go through the Remind system near the end of the game.  Please sign up for the ACHS Band Remind if you haven’t (Instructions at the bottom of this newsletter)!

  • Parents please be on time for pickup, but also patient.  It is hard to predict an exact dismissal time.  We are very aware everyone wants to go home, but is important for students to stay until dismissal is complete.  The school closes shortly after the game ends, so we cannot wait an hour for anyone to come get their child.  As the season progresses, we get more efficient and usually dismissal times sent through Remind are more accurate.
Parking
Students and Volunteers, when arriving at the school please park naer the left fence of the school or by the cafeteria.  Please view the map at this link to have a clearer understanding:  https://drive.google.com/open?id=17lIsbfFNLttNaysUeJ9VgDgdEv8&usp=sharing
  • Those not volunteering or in the band room must use the $5 paid parking at the front of the school.
Volunteering
  • Volunteering for this game is now closed.  For future games please sign up by Tuesday night of the corresponding event, and make sure you have been cleared in the front office for the year!
  • Volunteers please arrive by 5:00pm and find the parent in charge for instructions.  There are late slots in Charms for those who cannot come by 5:00pm.
Other Ways to Participate!
  • Remember, the band sells popcorn at games for $1!
  • We have a tradition of visiting Jack’s Pizza at Military Trail and Atlantic Avenue after home games.  You are invited to join us.  Pizza and a drink are only $5!
Parents, If you haven’t yet PLEASE
  • Sign up for the Remind text system by texting @achsmu to the number 81010.
  • Learn to check the Charms calendar each week for band events! https://www.charmsoffice.com/charms/parents.asp?username=AtlanticComBand
  • Become familiar with our new website.  We will be adding information to this frequently!
  • Register to the VIPS system. Bring your driver’s license to the school office during school hours to get approved.  You need to do this in advance of volunteering events, but you only have to do this once for the year!
  • Sign up to help for at least a couple of our events. On the Charms calendar, click on the hand icon next to the event of your choosing and add your information.
Football Ad Sales deadline has been extended AGAIN to Friday 8/24!
All ad orders, money, and artwork must be turned in by the end of Friday in order to be printed in the Football Program book for this year.  We are very low on ads.  There are MANY vendors on our list that have not been approached yet.  Students & Parents, this is EASY money towards your Fair Share!
Coupon Book Sales Have Started!
  • Each book has 80 pages of great coupon savings! Many are ‘Buy One Get On Free!’  These books sell themselves!  The savings are well worth the cost.  It’s not unusual for families to sell 20 or 30 books!  Many will even buy 5-10 for themselves!  Feel free to take a view a sample in the band room!
  • Students sell for $25 each and 50% is credited towards their Fair Share as profit!
  • Please see Trish Tozzi or Mr. Bowman after practices to purchase books.
  • All unsold books must be returned by the deadline (Friday, September 14th).  Missing books will be charged to the student, so make sure to sell or return all books!
  • Another bonus perk!  Each book comes with an app you can use to register your coupon book and use it on the go!
Students Auditioning for All-State (Jazz or Concert)
All students auditioning to All-State, please see Mr. Bowman to register and make sure you have the appropriate materials!
