The Band Program

Our band program has a long, proud legacy in the Delray  Beach and Palm Beach county community and continues to be one of the most active organizations at Atlantic Community High School. Our band students receive honors at district and state levels and always represent a comprehensive curriculum that consistently provides quality music education opportunities through various types of performing ensembles.

Marching Band

The “Marching War Eagle Band” is the most visible ensemble, participating in football games, local parades, special community events, school pep rallies, and marching band competitions.  All wind and percussion students need to be enrolled in a music class and together with the Percussion & Color Guard class,

"WE ARE THE EAGLES!"

Students have two required weekly after-school rehearsals during football season, which usually ends in November.

Color Guard / Winter Guard

The Atlantic Color Guard has high standards in team work and a proud legacy of high accomplishments. No experience needed in learning to spin & toss flags and other equipment while dancing to the music of the Band. During marching season, the Color Guard brings the music of the Band to life in the halftime show and in the stands at football games. After marching season, the Marching Guard becomes the Winter Guard. Separate from the Band and Percussion, they learn a more expressively choreographed performance in the gym and compete with other high school guards from January through March.

Concert & Jazz Bands

The Atlantic High Concert Bands have a long standing tradition of musical integrity. As with marching rehearsals, all after school rehearsals are required in order to properly prepare for public performances and evaluations. Each concert band performs at the Winter and Spring concerts, as well as at the District Music Performance Assessment. Band 1 is intended for beginners.

Jazz Band is a part of both Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble -placement is based on ability and is ultimately determined by the Director of Bands. All students are encouraged to take private lessons, audition for district & state honor bands, and perform solos and/or small ensembles at festival.

Percussion Ensemble / Winter Percussion

The Atlantic High School Percussion section, teaches students discipline, patience, various drumming techniques, self-respect, and teamwork.  Initial focus is on the marching percussion (the battery) and the front ensemble, or pit (mallet instruments and auxiliary) sections of marching band. All students enrolled in this class perform with Symphonic Band or Wind Ensemble, and have the opportunity to play Jazz.

The Percussion Ensemble may also perform as a class group in the Spring semester for Solo & Ensemble and/or Winter Percussion, which is percussion only in the gym competing against other high schools from January through March.

IB Music

Juniors and seniors of the IB Diploma program have the option to take IB Music. This class develops music listening and analysis skills. The curriculum involves a heavy study of music culture and theory. One unique feature of our program is that both standard level (SL) and high level (HL) subjects are offered in music at ACHS. This is a rare opportunity seen at IB schools and is reminiscent of the diverse programs available at Atlantic Community High School.
